As part of a broader strategy to strengthen Baja California’s diverse tourism offerings and expand professional development across its value chain, the state’s Secretariat of Tourism has announced an open call to participate in the International Certification in Romance Tourism, facilitated by the Association of Bridal Consultants (ABC).

Secretary of Tourism Miguel Ángel Badiola Montaño emphasized that these initiatives equip service providers with essential tools to craft experiences that highlight the region’s wealth, while also opening the door for local venues to host a wider array of events and services.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity to continue demonstrating that Baja California offers countless ways to celebrate, welcome, and extend hospitality,” said Badiola Montaño. “This certification aligns our value chain with international standards and, in doing so, strengthens an industry that generates memorable experiences, employment, and shared well-being for our communities.”

Scheduled to run from August 31 to September 2, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., the training will take place at Puerto Nuevo Baja Hotel & Villas. The program is designed for professionals and businesses linked to romance tourism: wedding planners, hotels and venues, caterers, audiovisual producers, florists, decorators, specialized event suppliers, and academics.

Romance Tourism as a Comprehensive Experience

Mexico’s Secretariat of Tourism has acknowledged that romance tourism encompasses a wide spectrum of experiences including engagement proposals, honeymoons, bachelor and bachelorette parties, anniversaries, vow renewals, babymoons, second weddings, family trips, and emerging trends such as elopements.

The segment’s growth allows destinations to diversify their portfolios and craft meaningful moments that integrate hotels, restaurants, venues, agencies, specialized suppliers, artisans, traditional cooks, producers, and local communities.

As such, Baja California is well-positioned to develop distinctive proposals that blend its landscapes, gastronomy, culture, and warmth. The state’s Secretariat of Tourism has actively promoted this segment with a focus on ensuring that the benefits of tourism reach broader segments of the population through authentic, identity-driven products and experiences.
