Baja California has taken center stage at the 2026 Food and Travel Reader Awards, securing five nominations that celebrate the state’s world-class gastronomy, wine tourism, hospitality, and dedication to sustainable practices. The annual awards honor top industry leaders and destinations across Mexico.
Among the accolades, the state’s nomination for Best Gastronomic Destination in Mexico highlights its growing status as an international culinary hub. Miguel Ángel Badiola Montaño, Baja California’s Secretary of Tourism, credited this recognition to the creativity of local chefs, the exceptional quality of regional ingredients, and the wide variety of experiences available to travelers.
He also emphasized that the nominations reflect the collective efforts of local communities, producers, and hospitality providers who showcase the state’s rich heritage, identity, and natural environment.
“It is a true honor that a publication like Food and Travel recognizes the dedication of our people and the wealth of our land,” said Badiola Montaño. “Behind every experience are individuals empowering their communities, preserving tradition, creating economic opportunity, and sharing the spirit of Baja California. These nominations inspire us to keep elevating our tourism sector.”
Baja California earned several nominations across several specialized categories including:
- Best Wine Tourism Offering: Bodegas Santo Tomás
- Best Boutique Hotel: Mira Earth Studios
- Best Sustainable Restaurant in Mexico: Deckman’s en el Mogor, recognized for its commitment to the environment and land
- Best Restaurant Across Mexico: Bruma Wine Garden
Badiola Montaño noted that all five nominees embody the principles of shared well-being by supporting small-scale producers, prioritizing environmental conservation, and fostering community growth.
