Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda inaugurated “Expo Ambiente 2026” on World Environment Day, an initiative designed to promote environmental stewardship and strengthen ecological awareness across the state.
In her address, the governor emphasized that building a more sustainable future requires active participation from all sectors of society, particularly young people, whose commitment and awareness will be crucial for preserving ecosystems and ensuring the well-being of future generations.

“Great changes always begin with people who dare to act. With young people who commit, and with citizens who understand that caring for the environment means caring for our own lives,” she said.
As part of the expo, the newly appointed Guardians of the Environment will help promote environmental awareness, community engagement, and sustainable practices within their local communities.

Elvia Martínez Santos, Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development, highlighted several ongoing initiatives tied to the San Quintín Justice Plan. These include the “Baja las Pilas” battery collection campaign, the “Recycling for San Quintín” program, beach cleanup days, and other activities aimed at fostering environmental education among the region’s youth.
Expo Ambiente 2026 seeks to deepen environmental awareness, especially among children and young people through workshops, informational activities, and citizen participation opportunities designed to protect ecosystems and preserve natural resources.
During her visit to San Quintín, the governor also presided over the swearing-in of Mathilde Rivera Trujillo as the new president of the Steering Committee of the Agricultural Council of Baja California. Rivera Trujillo’s election marks the first time a woman has been chosen to lead the organization.
