Finding medical care in an unfamiliar destination can involve more than locating a doctor or hospital. Visitors also need information about the facilities providing those services and their operating requirements. Baja Health Tourism is a platform that aims to make that process easier by bringing together information on medical professionals, hospitals, pharmacies, and laboratories across Baja California. It allows users to explore available options before deciding where to seek care.
Jorge Alberto III Arteaga Alemán, Baja California’s coordinator of Health and Wellness Tourism, said the directory includes establishments that have undergone a review of their operating conditions and health-related requirements.
The initiative was developed through collaboration between health authorities and the state’s Tourism Secretariat. According to Arteaga Alemán, the review covers sanitary permits, operating permits, and compliance with health authority guidelines.
What Visitors Can Review Before Choosing a Provider
The directory gives prospective patients a way to compare different medical care options in the region. Arteaga Alemán said patient safety and service quality are among the considerations taken into account when establishments are reviewed.
The information is intended to help visitors assess aspects of a facility’s operation as part of their decision-making process.

Bariatric and Plastic Surgery Among the Most Requested Specialties
Bariatric surgery and plastic surgery are among the most sought-after services within Baja California’s medical tourism sector, Arteaga Alemán noted.
However, the region’s medical offerings extend beyond those procedures. Other specialties available include cardiology, gynecology and obstetrics, urology, and dermatology.
The state coordinator also pointed to changes in the sector’s business models over time, with medical providers expanding their offerings across different specialties.
