U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Calexico port of entry seized more than 400 kilograms (886 pounds) of liquid methamphetamine concealed inside a commercial vehicle, federal authorities announced.
The interception occurred on October 22 when a 2016 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer, driven by a U.S. citizen, attempted to enter the United States. CBP officers referred the vehicle for a secondary inspection, where they noticed an unusual discoloration inside the rig’s fuel tank.
Subsequent testing of the liquid confirmed the presence of methamphetamine. Officers then extracted 22 five-gallon buckets containing the liquid narcotics.
“This seizure demonstrates the commitment of our CBP officers at the Calexico Commercial Facility,” said San Diego Director of Field Operations Sidney K. Aki. “Through the coordinated efforts of our intelligence teams and frontline officers, CBP intercepted more than 886 pounds of methamphetamine, before it could reach our communities.”
