Playas de Rosarito is preparing to welcome community leaders, partners, and members of the community for the convention celebrating the 50th anniversary of Playas de Rosarito’s Grupo Madrugadores (1976–2026).

Originally coordinated by Hugo Torres Chabert, the Rosarito chapter holds a unique place in the organization’s history as the very first group established under the “umbrella” of the founding movement.

The official 50th-anniversary celebration will take place November 20 and 21 at the Rosarito Beach Hotel.

In addition to formal ceremonies and protocol events, attendees will witness the official unveiling of a commemorative 50th-anniversary book presented by Professor Juvenal Arias Guzmán.

Admission passes for the two-day convention are available for $3,800 MXN ($204 USD), with advance registration required due to limited capacity. Payment can be made as follows:

The story of Grupo Madrugadores began in 1976 when a group of friends started gathering regularly to “fix the world”, which evolved into a highly influential civic association.

“An early riser (madrugador) is an alert, forward-thinking, and analytical individual with independent judgment, diligent, guided by integrity, and ready to act in service of humanity’s highest causes while seeking and spreading the truth,” the group states.

Over the past five decades, Playas de Rosarito’s Grupo Madrugadores has executed significant activities and initiative such as the establishment of the Pro-Municipality Committee (1982), which led the movement to secure Rosarito’s political independence from Tijuana, enabling local government to address community-specific needs more efficiently.

In addition, they championed the development of the local thermoelectric plant, the first facility in Baja California to utilize natural gas to significantly curb emissions and pushed for the establishment of local high schools and universities, while establishing essential community organizations such as the Playas de Rosarito Pro-Firefighters Board (A.C.).

The Rosarito Tourism and Conventions Committee (COTUCO) invites the public to celebrate five decades of impactful civic leadership in the coastal municipality.
