With a 15-million-peso investment, the State Commission of Public Services of Tijuana (CESPT) has kicked off the second phase of rehabilitation work on the sanitary sewer system along Avenida Revolución, specifically covering the stretch between Sixth and Seventh streets.
The project entails replacing infrastructure that has been in continuous service for over fifty years, as part of a broader effort to reinforce the utility systems supporting one of the city’s most vital commercial corridors.
The work includes the installation of 310 linear meters of new sanitary sewer piping, 45 meters of potable water lines, the construction of four manholes, and the refurbishment of 12 sanitary connections, all based on technical assessments previously conducted for this section of the avenue.
CESPT General Director Mónica Vega Aguirre emphasized that this new phase is a key step in the ongoing rehabilitation of critical infrastructure in an area heavily frequented by tourists, businesses, and locals alike to benefit the thousands of residents, workers, and visitors in Downtown Tijuana.
“We are making progress in this new chapter of a project that will deliver more dependable infrastructure to everyone who lives, works, or visits this part of Tijuana,” said Vega Aguirre. “Replacing networks that have long surpassed their useful life means we can prevent leaks, avoid sewage spills, and ensure higher-quality service for years to come.”
This second stage follows earlier rehabilitation work carried out by CESPT on Fourth and Fifth streets, where water and drainage systems were also upgraded. With the current phase, the agency continues its systematic modernization of the underground infrastructure along the Avenida Revolución corridor.
Given the deteriorated conditions found in this stretch, the project focuses first on replacing the sanitary sewer lines, while also addressing segments of the potable water network identified by technical studies as requiring immediate attention.
With much of the existing piping dating back more than five decades, the renewal effort is expected to significantly reduce the risk of system failures, prevent costly leaks and overflows, and enhance the overall reliability of both water supply and wastewater services.
Work is scheduled for completion by November 19, though the timeline may be adjusted depending on any unforeseen technical challenges that arise during construction.
