Governor Marina del Pilar has teamed up with DiDi to connect the app’s emergency button directly to the state’s C5 security command center to make ride-hailing safer for thousands of users.

The new agreement means that when a driver or passenger hits the panic button, the C5 instantly receives key details including name, phone number, car description, and live location. Authorities can then respond immediately, working closely with the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

“We’re creating a direct line between DiDi and Baja California’s C5 emergency response system. The alert will activate and allow for a stronger and faster response,” the governor said.

Meanwhile, Jorge Alberto GutiƩrrez Topete, head of the State Institute for Sustainable Mobility (IMOS), said that the new emergency feature is game-changer for both passengers and drivers.

Daniela Reyes Torres, DiDi’s National Manager of Government Relations, noted that since launching in Baja California in 2018, DiDi has added 271 million pesos to the state’s economy and now supports over 140,000 people who rely on app-based earnings.

In addition, DiDi will provide 500 free ride vouchers for women escaping violent situations, helping them reach the Women’s Justice Center (CEJUM) for medical care, legal advice, and help filing reports.

It should be noted that in Baja California women request half of all DiDi trips in the state, and that number jumps to 60% at night. In response, the app has already rolled out a feature allowing female drivers to receive ride requests only from other women.
