Great news for San Diego County families looking for new outdoor activities: there’s a brand-new waterfront destination to explore. The Port of San Diego and the City of Chula Vista have officially opened Harbor Park Playground, a nautical-themed play area set along the Chula Vista Bayfront.
Designed for children of all ages, the new space boasts custom slides, climbing structures, and a play hill equipped with climbing ropes. Visitors will also find shaded seating, picnic tables, and pedestrian pathways connecting the playground to the surrounding parkland.
Local leaders, project partners, and community members gathered for a grand opening ceremony to celebrate the completion of the newest addition to the bayfront.

Maritime-Inspired Design for Family Recreation
Every detail of Harbor Park Playground draws inspiration from the region’s rich maritime surroundings, offering interactive features designed to spark curiosity and keep kids active.
The park also features wide walking paths, relaxing seating areas, and expanded green spaces that showcase views of San Diego Bay.
Ann Moore, Chair of the Port of San Diego Board of Commissioners, emphasized the role local residents played in shaping the project to create a multi-generational space for all to enjoy.
Chula Vista Mayor John McCann also praised the opening, calling the park a valuable addition that will bring families together and foster a stronger sense of community among neighbors.

What’s Next: A Splash Pad Coming in 2027
While the play area is officially open to the public, the transformation of Harbor Park is just getting started.
The Port of San Diego announced that a new splash pad and water play area is currently scheduled to open adjacent to the playground in the spring of 2027.
