The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) recently released a video that captures California’s fireworks displays from space offering a dazzling, high-altitude view of celebrations that, in Los Angeles, are actually illegal.

The footage illuminates the city’s nightscape, blending its usual urban glow with bursts of light from fireworks.

Yet in Los Angeles County, the use of any type of firework including those labeled “Safe and Sane” is strictly prohibited.

While some counties in California do permit the sale and use of these certified fireworks through authorized temporary stands, L.A. enforces a blanket ban without exception.

Despite the restrictions, many residents chose to set off fireworks anyway. Authorities have since reiterated the dangers associated with the practice, emphasizing the risks to public safety, wildlife, and the environment, plus the threat of them causing wildfires.
