The U.S.-Mexico border is a site of constant activity. Each day, millions of tourists and residents cross legally through ports of entry, while authorities work to intercept illegal activities particularly at the busy Tijuana–San Diego ports of entry.
Federal prosecutors in the Southern District of California have announced there were 71 border-related criminal cases this week, with charges ranging from human smuggling for profit to the importation of large quantities of illicit drugs.

Among the most striking cases is that of Christopher Jaymes Boegeman, a U.S. citizen arrested after he allegedly presented a U.S. passport belonging to another individual on behalf of a female passenger attempting to enter the country through the San Ysidro Port of Entry on August 24. Authorities say the passenger was a woman from India who had paid Boegeman a fee to facilitate her illegal entry. He now faces federal charges for bringing aliens into the United States for financial gain.
Just two days earlier, on August 22, another American citizen, Adán Alejandro Cárdenas, was taken into custody at the same crossing after customs officers discovered 251 pounds of cocaine concealed inside the bed of the 2014 GMC Sierra he was driving when entering the U.S.
In addition, officers at the Tecate port of entry intercepted a Mexican national attempting to drive a 2020 Nissan Rogue across the border. A subsequent search revealed 153 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside a compartment installed beneath the front seats.
