The Mexican National Team has climbed four spots in the latest FIFA rankings to secure the No. 10 position, following the 2026 FIFA World Cup which was co-hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
Under the guidance of former head coach Javier Aguirre, the Mexican National Team delivered one of its most impressive campaigns in modern history with four victories.
A Historic Participation
Mexico’s round-of-32 triumph over Ecuador was particularly significant, as it marked the nation’s first knockout-stage win in 40 years, underscoring the team’s defensive resilience and its efficiency in each match.
Over the course of the tournament, Mexico scored 10 goals while keeping a clean sheet throughout the entire group stage, which minimized the impact of goals conceded in the ranking’s average calculations.
Although Mexico’s journey ended in a narrow 2–3 loss to England in the next round, the defeat carried little weight in the rankings. By going head-to-head with one of the tournament’s eventual top-four sides, the team suffered only a minimal points reduction, ultimately finishing as the ninth-best side in the competition and the tenth-best in the world.
