The Olinia project, which aims to produce a 100% Mexican electric vehicle, is actively looking for companies to partner with for manufacturing, according to project lead Roberto Capuano.
Speaking at Tuesday’s morning press conference, Capuano acknowledged that producing the car, planned for summer 2027, is a major challenge. He noted that the goal is to collaborate with a company capable of manufacturing similar vehicles and delivering them on schedule.

Alongside the search for partners, the project is also pushing for a new regulatory framework that would create a dedicated vehicle category for Olinia.
Capuano reiterated that the vehicle is neither a motorcycle nor a compact car, and since nothing like it currently exists on Mexican roads, a new classification is needed.

Beyond the vehicle itself, Capuano said the project aims to introduce a new industrial platform that would allow any private company to enter Mexico’s mini-car market.
He also explained that the new regulation will be harmonized with similar standards already in place in the United States, Japan, and European nations that produce comparable vehicles.
