If you’re planning a trip to Rosarito this week, there’s a new event that offers more than a day at the beach.

On Saturday, July 4, the city will host its “Festival Ambiental” (Environmental Festival), a free community event designed to encourage visitors and residents alike to learn about ocean conservation while enjoying one of Baja California’s most popular destinations.

Held under the theme “Live the Beach, Protect the Sea,” the festival will transform a stretch of Rosarito’s shoreline into an outdoor space dedicated to sustainability, education and local culture.

More than just an environmental fair

The festival is organized by the City of Rosarito in partnership with the Municipal Department of Environmental Protection and brings together government agencies, nonprofit organizations and community groups for an afternoon dedicated to environmental education and sustainability. Rather than focusing on a single cleanup effort, the event offers a broader look at the challenges and solutions facing the region’s coastline.

Visitors will have the opportunity to attend presentations from specialists discussing marine pollution, ocean conservation, circular economy initiatives along the U.S.-Mexico border and the welfare of horses used in ecotourism.

The festival will also feature interactive workshops, educational exhibits, live artistic performances, children’s activities, nonprofit organizations and a marketplace highlighting local businesses committed to sustainable products and practices.

A unique feature of this year’s festival is the participation of Kumiai and Purépecha communities, whose members will share traditional knowledge, crafts and cultural practices that reflect a longstanding relationship with nature.

Organizers hope the event will demonstrate that protecting the environment also means preserving the cultural traditions and Indigenous knowledge that have shaped the region for generations.

Plan your visit

The Environmental Festival will take place on the beach across from the Municipal DIF parking lot on René Ortiz Street in downtown Rosarito.

The event will also feature participation from several organizations and local leaders involved in environmental protection and community outreach, including the Rosarito Tourism and Convention Committee (COTUCO), ZOFEMAT, Plurales MX, the Municipal DIF Board, and representatives from Baja California’s Secretariat of Economy and Innovation.
