With the goal of improving roadways to ensure faster and safer travel for Mexicali families, the Government of Baja California has rolled out the “Safe Streets, Safe Families” program, executing pothole repair, repaving, and street rehabilitation efforts in coordination with the Mexicali City Hall.
The initiative, promoted by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, reflects a strategic alignment between state and municipal authorities to expand coverage in high-priority areas and directly address one of the most persistent demands voiced by residents: better-conditioned streets that guarantee safer mobility.

Since February, more than 8,000 potholes have been repaired across Mexicali, with crews currently active in the Independencia neighborhood, where ongoing road and avenue recovery work is set to significantly enhance local connectivity.
Governor Marina del Pilar emphasized that the program emerged from a sustained commitment to citizen dialogue and strategically using City Hall resources to respond to community needs.
“By listening to the public, as we consistently do, we recognize that this is one of the foremost concerns. That is why we are working closely with the City Hall to continue filling potholes and paving streets across multiple neighborhoods,” she stated.

Armando Carrazco López, director of the State Commission of Public Services of Mexicali (CESPM), reported that work in the Independencia neighborhood began on major roads and will extend over the coming weeks to secondary streets and avenues throughout the area.
He further noted that the program encompasses pothole patching, paving, repaving, and sealing, according to the specific conditions and requirements of each road.
Felipe de Jesús Gamboa Valdez, Secretary of Well-Being, underscored that “Safe Streets, Safe Families” is designed to translate road rehabilitation into tangible improvements in daily life, easing commutes and fostering safer public environments.
He added that better-maintained streets contribute to shorter travel times, allowing residents to dedicate more hours to family life, thereby reinforcing the broader goal of Shared Well-Being across the community.
