Travelers crossing from Tijuana into San Diego this Friday should expect a brief interruption at the border as U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) pauses operations to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
The one-minute pause will take place at 5:46 a.m. Pacific Time on September 11, marking the moment American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York.
Operations will resume at 5:47 a.m. The temporary halt will affect the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa ports of entry, as well as Calexico West.
CBP said the moment of silence is intended to honor those who died in the attacks and remember an event that profoundly changed the United States.
What Travelers Should Expect
The interruption is expected to be brief, but people planning an early-morning border crossing may want to allow some extra time for their trip.
CBP is asking travelers to be patient during the pause and to plan accordingly. The agency also recommends checking Border Wait Times for the latest information before heading to the ports of entry.
The temporary measure applies to the border crossings in the region listed above and will last for only one minute before normal operations resume.
