Senator Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas is carrying forward the legacy of his late mother, Diana Laura Riojas Reyes, through the foundation that bears her name, which celebrated its first anniversary on September 4.
The Diana Laura Riojas Reyes Foundation celebrated its inaugural year at the Museo La Milarca in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León. During the commemoration, it was announced that the organization’s programs have already reached 4,994 individuals across eight states.
At the event, Colosio Riojas, who founded the organization, reflected on the values that defined his mother’s life and continue to guide the foundation’s mission.
“My mother understood that loving someone meant more than just saying the words,” he shared. “It meant being present, offering help, and taking action for the well-being of others.”
The foundation has concentrated much of its efforts on early childhood development, with a particular focus on children from birth to five years old, as well as on vulnerable communities that face systemic disadvantage.
The foundation has expanded to several states including Nuevo León, Sonora, Mexico City, Veracruz, Nayarit, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, and Coahuila.
The event was attended by Rodrigo Saval Pasquel, president of the foundation; Nuevo León Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda; and Mariana Rodríguez Cantú, alongside representatives from business, academia, and philanthropy.
The foundation is named in honor of Diana Laura Riojas Reyes, wife of the late Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrieta, a former PRI presidential candidate assassinated in 1994, and mother of Senator Colosio Riojas and his sister, Mariana. Diana Laura passed away on November 18, 1994, just eight months after her husband’s death.
