The “Soy México 2026” initiative, launched by the Baja California State Government, aims to simplify the process of obtaining Mexican nationality documents for children born in the United States who now reside, study, or carry out their daily activities in the state. The campaign is designed to facilitate the recognition of their nationality and ensure the full exercise of their rights.
Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda underscored that “Soy México” delivers tangible solutions and shared well-being to families, making it easier for children to secure the official paperwork needed to access opportunities and entitlements available throughout Baja California.
The program is being carried out in coordination with the Government of Mexico through the National Registry of Population and Identity (RENAPO). It streamlines the registration process by allowing U.S. birth certificates to be validated without the need for an apostille, translation, or certificate of non-existence.
Upon successful completion of the procedure, minors will receive their Mexican birth certificate and CURP (Unique Population Registry Code), both of which are essential credentials for certifying their identity and enabling the exercise of their rights within the country.
The campaign will be deployed in stages across the region: Mexicali and San Quintín from August 10 to 31; San Felipe and Tijuana from September 1 to 30; and Tecate, Ensenada, and Playas de Rosarito from October 1 to 26.
The service will be offered free of charge in Tijuana, Playas de Rosarito, Tecate, Ensenada, and San Quintín, while in Mexicali and San Felipe, a 50% discount on applicable fees will be applied.
Families interested in participating must visit the nearest Civil Registry Office with the following documents: a completed birth registration application, a legible copy of the minor’s U.S. birth certificate, QR-format birth certificates of the Mexican parents, valid identification for the parents, and the certified CURP of one or both Mexican parents.
Through “Soy México 2026,” the state government is delivering practical support to binational families, offering legal certainty regarding their children’s identity, expanding access to new opportunities, and advancing a shared vision of well-being for all.
