Tecate City Councilwoman María Quijada remains hospitalized in the United States in critical but stable condition, according to Baja California Attorney General María Elena Andrade Ramírez, who provided an update on the investigation. The attack also claimed the life of Quijada’s husband.
Speaking during the state’s regular morning news conference, Andrade said investigators are committed to fully resolving the case. Still, she declined to discuss specific investigative theories, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation and respect for the victim’s family.
Investigation continues
According to the attorney general, investigators recovered 45 shell casings at the scene of the shooting in Tecate’s Hacienda neighborhood, where bullets struck both the victims’ vehicle and a nearby home.
Authorities also located the suspects’ vehicle, which had been set on fire. Forensic specialists are examining it for evidence that could help identify those responsible.
Andrade added that investigators executed several search warrants overnight and are reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding area while maintaining close communication with Quijada’s family.
Finally, she confirmed that the authorities are pursuing two lines of investigation, and expect to provide additional updates as the case progresses.
