The Tijuana City Hall met with the U.S. Consulate General in Tijuana this week, aiming to deepen binational cooperation and keep priority environmental issues moving forward under the public policy agenda of Mayor Abdiel Gutiérrez Coronado.
Secretary of Environmental Protection Rosario Adilene Rivera RamÃrez outlined the city government’s environmental initiatives. Among the highlights: environmental education programs, promotion of the “Green Button” initiative, air quality monitoring, tree-planting and reforestation campaigns, beach cleanup efforts, and workshops on environmental permits and procedures.
Vice Consul for Political and Economic Affairs Todd Wilson Ardell Crawford, representing the U.S. Consulate General in Tijuana, stressed the value of a coordinated environmental agenda between the two countries, noting it would strengthen outcomes for the entire border region.
The two sides agreed to keep close tabs on several priority areas, including waste management, water management, control of atmospheric emissions, and erosion. They also committed to deepening collaboration with key California agencies.
To that end, the U.S. Consulate General in Tijuana will help connect the city with institutions such as the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District (SDAPCD), reinforcing mechanisms that support environmental efforts along the border.
The Tijuana City Hall reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing communication and effective coordination with national and international institutions, driving technical projects, monitoring tools, and strategies that protect and preserve the environment.
