U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau has issued a public appeal requesting assistance in identifying and reporting individuals who misuse their U.S. visas.
In a statement posted on social media, Landau emphasized the Department of State’s central role in determining who enters the country and enforcing the conditions of their stay.
However, he noted that visa fraud remains a persistent challenge, with bad actors overstaying their authorized visits or engaging in unauthorized activities such as illegal employment.
Aligning the effort with the border and immigration policies of President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Landau reiterated the administration’s commitment to strictly enforcing federal immigration laws.
Recognizing it is no easy task, Landau urged members of the public, both U.S. citizens and foreign nationals, to submit reports on suspected visa violations.
Landau, who earned the nickname “El Quitavisas” (“The Visa Revoker”), provided a link to an online form where tips can be submitted anonymously.
He closed his message with a warning:
“And remember: those who abuse the system make life harder for everyone else who plays by the rules!”
