The U.S. Coast Guard intercepted 28 migrants traveling aboard two separate vessels off the San Diego coast over the weekend.

The first interception took place Saturday, October 3, approximately 24 miles west of Point Loma. At roughly 10:00 AM, air and marine personnel with U.S. Customs and Border Protection spotted a 23-foot cuddy-cabin vessel heading north toward the maritime boundary and alerted the crew of the Florence Finch ship.

The Florence Finch crew intercepted the boat as it crossed the boundary line. At 10:40 AM, a boarding team boarded the vessel and detained 10 individuals without incident. The group was transported to Ballast Point and transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

The second operation occurred on Sunday, October 4, about 20 miles west of Carlsbad. At approximately 4:25 AM, the crew of the Coast Guard Forrest Rednour ship detected a 25-foot panga-style boat north of the maritime boundary and deployed a small interceptor boat. A boarding team boarded the vessel at 5:45 AM, detaining 18 individuals. They were taken to Oceanside and transferred into the custody of the U.S. Border Patrol.
