California gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra called on state leaders to denounce what he termed the “dangerous rhetoric” of U.S. President Donald Trump, warning that his statements endanger local residents.
Writing on social media, the Democrat argued that there is no place for the “authoritarian behavior” of the Trump administration, emphasizing that the time has arrived to confront the MAGA (Make America Great Again) regime.
“There is no place for his administration’s authoritarian behavior, and it’s time our leaders stand up to the MAGA regime.,” Becerra wrote in a post accompanying a video message.

The remarks follow comments from Trump suggesting that the destruction of Los Angeles or San Diego would be a small price to pay amid his conflict with Iran. In the video clip, Becerra noted that the statement made it clear California is not the president’s favorite state, calling it unfortunate for someone tasked with representing all Americans.
Becerra added that fellow leaders must condemn the remarks and not out of a belief that an Iranian strike is imminent, but because the president’s rhetoric effectively invited such an attack.
With the California gubernatorial election just weeks away, Becerra urged political figures to abandon neutrality and publicly denounce a president he accuses of destabilizing the nation.

The Democratic candidate also criticized the influence of the federal agenda in California, arguing that his Republican opponent, Steve Hilton, serves as a direct extension of White House policies.
The message underscores a central pillar of Becerra’s campaign narrative: a commitment to checking federal executive overreach, particularly on key issues such as immigration, civil rights, and the preservation of state autonomy.
