The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced a series of seizures carried out by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the southwest border.
San Diego Fentanyl Seizure Removes Millions of Doses from the Streets
The operations took place this month, with CBP field agents seizing nearly 4.5 kilograms of powdered fentanyl. According to officials, the total amount of illicit fentanyl confiscated along the southwest border during fiscal year 2026 could have been enough to kill more than 100 million Americans.
“Thanks to the hard work of the brave men and women of the CBP, in fiscal year 2026 alone, we seized enough fentanyl to kill more than 100 million Americans. Now that our border is secure, it is harder than ever for cartels, gangs, and other drug traffickers to bring their poison into our country. These seizures have saved countless American lives,” said Acting Deputy Secretary Lauren Bis.
Beyond fentanyl, CBP has also confiscated tens of thousands of pounds of other deadly drugs.
In fiscal year 2026, agents seized 152,000 pounds of methamphetamine surpassing the total for all of fiscal year 2025 and more than 28,000 pounds of cocaine, exceeding the fiscal year 2025 amount to date.
