Tijuana’s new FastLane Program for Cross-Border Workers has started processing its first applicants, according to Pedro Montejo Peterson, Tijuana’s Secretary of Economic Development,

The initiative has already benefited 50 people since opening its application process.

“By the end of May, we expect to reach 150. And by the end of summer, around August, we are trying to get to 500 people at most,” Montejo Peterson said.

The program is designed to streamline border crossings through organized carpooling, promoting more efficient mobility in exchange for a monthly membership fee that covers up to four people.

Each membership allows users to register up to two vehicles for a group of four people, with the total cost split among the members.

Applicants can choose between two membership tiers:

  • Otay-only access: 95 UMAS (approximately $10,748 pesos or $603 USD) per month.
  • Access to all three border ports of entry: two in San Ysidro and one in Otay, costing 140 UMAS (approximately $15,839.60 pesos or $888 USD) per month.

Interested applicants must first submit an online request. Those who qualify will then be called for an in-person interview to verify that they meet all program requirements, including proof of residency in Baja California, a valid U.S. work visa, and verifiable employment in the United States.
