Teachers affiliated with the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) blocked access to the export crossing in Otay on Thursday morning, part of ongoing nationwide mobilizations demanding action on their labor grievances.

The blockade began Thursday, June 11, on 12 Norte Street near Bellas Artes Boulevard in the Otay district, significantly disrupting the movement of tractor-trailers and cargo units attempting to reach the international border crossing into the United States. The congestion caused delays along one of the region’s most critical commercial routes.

The teachers are calling for the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE Law, which they argue unfairly affects their retirement benefits. In addition, they are demanding a return to a collective pension system, improved working conditions, and a direct response from the Federal Government to their proposals.

Protesters have warned that they will continue their actions until their demands are addressed.
