The 2026 edition of the national summer program “My Vacation in the Library” drew more than 5,000 participants in Tijuana and was organized by City Hall through the Municipal Secretariat of Culture.
Secretary of Culture Yadira Gutiérrez Avila emphasized that the program aligns with Mayor Abdiel Gutiérrez Coronado’s commitment to strengthening cultural access, highlighting public libraries as essential hubs for family enrichment, education, and community building.

“Libraries are spaces of resilience and discovery. They replace silence with shared dialogue and come alive through multidisciplinary artistic activities, all while placing reading and the reclamation of public spaces at their core,” she said.
Throughout the program, a total of 5,321 attendances were recorded across 179 workshops held at various public libraries in Tijuana. The activities were designed to appeal to diverse age groups and interests, with a strong emphasis on creativity, teamwork, and learning.
4,499 children,164 teenagers, 450 adults, and 208 individuals with disabilities participated in this program, underscoring the inclusive nature of the programming.

Attendees engaged in a wide range of interactive sessions, including workshops such as “Football: The Game Everyone Plays,” “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?,” “Read Me the Same as a Book,” and “Questions to the Shelf.” These were complemented by storytelling sessions, craft activities, and group integration exercises, all led by the dedicated librarians of the Municipal Library Network.
Now in its third decade, “My Vacation in the Library” stands as a testament to successful inter-institutional collaboration. The program is made possible through the coordinated efforts of the General Directorate of Libraries, the State Library Coordination, and the Public Libraries Coordination of the City Hall, with support from the Secretariat of Culture and the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture (IMAC).
The Tijuana City Hall reaffirms its commitment to expanding cultural opportunities and ensuring that public libraries remain welcoming, free, and safe spaces for all members of the community.
