During the COVID-19 cases update last Tuesday, July 28, authorities mentioned that due to the questioning and insistence of the population and bar employees about the reopening of these businesses, they carried out an analysis of this possibility.

However, due to the current figures of coronavirus infections in Baja California, Health Secretary Alonso Perez Rico confirmed that the bars located in the state will open when the epidemiological traffic light turns green.

This is why authorities said that we must wait longer, because although some restaurants have bars, if they reopen they will cause a greater problem for the conviviality between people, causing the loss of the safe distance and the use of face masks.

"We can't open bars because the infections peak", said the authorities.

Perez Rico also mentioned that some other activities have been reopened under strict protocols, but that their capacity is marked by the orange traffic light.

Given the uncertain future of bars, many of them have opted to open as restaurants, such as Bar Cheers and Grill and BCB Tasting Room, while others did not survive the coronavirus crisis.

What do you think of this decision? Have any of your favorite bars closed permanently?
