MEXICALI.- After Baja California was changed to be under the green traffic light and was able to contain the fourth wave of Omicron variant infections, the state Governor, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, invited the general public to keep taking precautions. Additionally, she also spoke about stopping the use of face masks in open spaces, though they will still need to be used in enclosed spaces.

Thanks to people’s commitment to health measures we were able to position ourselves under the green epidemiological traffic light”, the Governor claimed through her social media.

It should be noted that in Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s morning press conference, on Tuesday, February 22, Subsecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez, stated that the pandemic in Baja California is in its final phase and said that this had to with the vaccination rate of over 92% in the state.

Due to this epidemiological condition, people in Baja California are able to resume activities that had been restricted for months. However, both the Governor and Secretary of Health, José Adrián Medina Amarillas, explained that no one should lower their guards, and that people should take care of themselves and their loved ones.

Marina del Pilar declared that the state government will keep following up on the pandemic, it still being a threat to Baja Californians’ health, through the Secretariat of Health and the Scientific Committee.

The green traffic light entails that circulation can be resumed without any restrictions and services such as restaurants, hotels, gyms, bars, movie theaters, malls, and supermarkets can be reactivated at 100%. This all means an economic relief after two years of this public health contingency.

Regarding the return to in-person classes, Governor Marina del Pilar pointed out that precise actions have been made so that students can return to their classrooms. She encouraged mothers and fathers to keep an eye for official announcements in relation to this issue.

Lastly, Marina del Pilar asked those who are still not vaccinated against Covid-19 to get their shot as soon as possible, since it is the best tool against the virus. Even with the low number of cases in the state, the vaccination centers in Baja California will continue to operate.
