In the update of cases by COVID-19 present in Baja California, the Secretary of Health Alonso Perez Rico, informed this Wednesday, September 30th that 352 active cases still remain in the state, Mexicali with the majority of them.

At the same time, the region registers 19 thousand 397 accumulated positive cases, being the state capital the one where most of these cases are reported, with 8 thousand 808; while Tijuana was the municipality that registered more new cases this day with 55.

During this presentation, the Secretary of Health pointed out that the positivity index in Baja California oscillates between 60 and 65 percent, which means that out of every 10 tests, 6 are positive.

"The highest we have had is 80%, when we had 80%, when we were doing like 10 to 15 tests a day. As we've expanded the number of tests we've had, that percentage has fortunately begun to decline. Yes, the positivity index that we have is one of the highest in the country, what do I mean by this? That out of every 10 tests that we do 6 came out positive, because Baja California follows the sentinel model; we consider that this is the way to adequately plan the actions that we have to do to protect our population," explained Perez Rico.

Unfortunately, at least 3 thousand 528 Baja Californians have already died from this disease, the most recent ones being in Mexicali (6), Tijuana (8) and Ensenada (1).

Of these patients who lost the battle against COVID-19, 54% were adults over 60 years old, the expert said. However, it should also be mentioned that 11 thousand 454 patients have already recovered from this disease in the state.
