The Secretary of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico, said that despite the fact that this week we are under the orange coloration of the COVID-19 epidemiological traffic light chart, "it is inevitable that we will transition to red" due to the trends observed in Baja California.

As of this Tuesday morning, 820 active cases have been registered:

  • Mexicali: 310
  • Tijuana: 253
  • Ensenada: 172
  • Tecate: 33
  • San Quintín: 23
  • San Felipe: 16
  • Rosarito: 13

In addition, 174 new cases of coronavirus were reported, of which 69 were located in Mexicali, 68 in Tijuana, 16 in Tecate, 10 in Ensenada, eight in Rosarito and three in San Felipe.

In turn, in the last 24 hours eight Baja Californians lost their lives due to this disease, four of them in Ensenada, three in Tijuana and one in Tecate.

Given this, and the trends observed for the entity due to the high mobility and the lack of compliance with preventive measures, Pérez Rico assured that the change of traffic light from orange to red is already a given.

"We are entering a situation as we were in April-May, it is unsustainable to maintain this coloration (orange) with these trends, we will transit to red, it is only a matter of time, we need to unite as a people to avoid massive closures".

And just as in the first wave, the return of restrictions on various state activities is already planned, which will be evaluated to see which will remain, although according to the Secretary of Health, activities will not be totally closed but will be restricted to a certain capacity.

"We have to make restrictive measures, yes we have to reduce mobilities, but the most important thing is to be co-responsible," he said.

Currently there are already 25 thousand 874 positive COVID-19 cases accumulated in Baja California, and 4 thousand 285 unfortunate deaths.
