Baja California rose with a lower number of active cases due to COVID-19 this Saturday, 871. However, the number of people hospitalized continues to increase, as Health Secretary Alonso Pérez Rico has commented in the past days.

Currently, the hospital occupation registered in the state is 87.33 percent, with the hospitals of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) being the busiest with 90.62 percent.

According to the head of the Department of Health, as of yesterday morning the region only has 95 beds available for patients with coronavirus and 108 ventilators. This is because 562 hospitalized Baja Californians confirmed by laboratory with COVID-19, and 221 who are intubated, have been reported.

"221 people have a machine, a ventilator; intubated to fight for their lives today. This is how Baja California is doing," said Pérez Rico during his report, and he added, "far from being a number, it is a patient, a patient whose family is very concerned and that patient had the option to take care of themselves and that patient's family had the option to take care of them, that patient's friends had the option to take care of them; and unfortunately, right now it is a number that is fighting for its life. We must not be part of this statistic; we must take care of ourselves".

So far, the positive cases accumulated in the entity total 31 thousand 868, of which 13 thousand 554 were presented in Mexicali, a municipality that recently reported 37 new cases.

In the case of those who have lost their lives in Baja California due to COVID-19, there are now 5 thousand 173, located mostly in Tijuana, where 2 thousand 230 were registered (17 recently), followed by Mexicali with 2 thousand 114 (16 new deaths).

In addition to these figures, the Secretary assured that the battle is being lost on the side of the state capital, since the effective reproduction rate is at 1.2 when the recommendation is to be below one, since this refers that a person with a coronavirus can infect another, and not more.

For the moment, it is important not to let down our guard, since the authorities expect that of the 3 thousand 414 suspicious cases that remain in the state, one thousand 100 will be positive.
