According to the report presented this Tuesday by the head of the Baja California Health Department, Alonso Pérez Rico, 29 new deaths from COVID-19 were recently registered in the state (19 in Mexicali), as well as 177 new cases (87 in Tijuana).

These figures add up to an accumulated 32 thousand 373 positive cases, of which 13 thousand 731 belong to Mexicali. Of the 5 thousand 258 deaths in the region, 2 thousand 270 occurred in Tijuana.

However, there is "good news for Baja California; all municipalities are decreasing the number of active cases," said Pérez Rico. The total number of these cases as of this Tuesday is 682, located mostly in the state capital (323) and in the border city of Tijuana(210).

"This is reliable evidence that mobility limitations and activity limitations contribute strongly to transmission chains," said the Secretary. Despite this, the doctor said that this can change if mobility is increased and if prevention measures such as the use of face masks and social distancing are left aside.

He added that the hospital occupation in the state is 71.72 percent, with 599 patients hospitalized by COVID-19 and 199 intubated. The availability of beds until this morning is 271 and 118 ventilators. Finally, Pérez Rico sent a message to Baja Californians who have recovered from coronavirus.

"For all the patients who are recovering from covid and who won the battle thanks to God and who are still with us and will continue with us in fiscal year 2021; you may be infected with other diseases because you are in a convalescent period, because when I win the battle of covid, imagine that you have just been operated on and you are still weak. So, keep on taking care, do not believe that antibodies will take care of you against other infections".
