Baja California has 825 active cases of coronavirus, most of them located in Tijuana (314). In addition, it has accumulated 34 thousand 146 confirmed cases and 5 thousand 567 deaths.

"Right now we are paying for the dates of December 24. All those who gathered on December 24th are already arriving at the hospital," mentioned the Secretary of Health Alonso Pérez Rico, who added, "we are going to pay for December 31st between January 10th and 14th".

According to the Secretary, the hospitals that attend patients with coronavirus in the entity report an occupation of 73.68 percent overall, with the Ministry of Health's hospitals being the fullest with 80 percent, while those of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) have an occupation of 66.67 percent.

In addition, the state has only 241 beds available and 142 ventilators, while 547 patients have been hospitalized by COVID-19, and 176 require automated mechanical ventilation.

Given the lack of social distancing, the doctor said that those who have done so have been saved from exposure to COVID-19, from getting sick and from having to fight for their lives. But those who do not respect this measure, he said, "have been very lucky or it is just a matter of time, that simple.

To conclude his report, Pérez Rico mentioned that "the Covid was able to show the deficiencies in relation to infrastructure, the lack of doctors who were being trained, we doubled the number of specialists who are going to be trained in Mexico in the last year, that should have been done a long time ago. In Baja California, we lack one hospital per city; this should have been done decades ago. Covid came to show all that we had left behind in terms of health, and at the end of the day, we have to work hard on this topic".
