The increase of COVID-19 cases in Baja California continues gradually, registering in the last 24 hours, 128 new cases and 24 deaths due to this disease.

Mexicali continues to be the municipality that worries health authorities, after reporting 40 new cases; while Tijuana has 17, the city where 21 deaths occurred during this period.

In turn, the entity went from 338 to 353 active cases, of which 159 are located in the state capital, 114 in the border city, 45 in Ensenada, 21 in San Quintin, seven in Rosario and seven in Tecate.

Hospital occupancy increased from 21.31% to 22.35% yesterday, with 64 patients hospitalized and 34 more intubated by COVID-19.

On this point, the head of the Secretariat of Health, Alonso Perez Rico, commented that this indicator does not decrease because despite the fact that patients are being discharged, while others lose their lives, more people confirmed with coronavirus continue to arrive. "COVID is not giving up, we are on a plateau", he said.

In addition, the speed at which the virus continues to be transmitted is also increasing in Baja California, where the Effective Reproduction Rate (ER) is 1.25, meaning that one person with COVID-19 can infect two more in the State.

Of the municipalities with the highest ER, Mexicali also leads the list, having this indicator at 1.27 and with positive trends. Other municipalities with a ER above one are Tijuana with 1.26, Tecate with 1.16 and Ensenada with 1.1.

According to the report presented by the Secretary of Health, the region accumulates 45 thousand 544 confirmed cases so far in the pandemic, 17 thousand 104 of them belonging to Mexicali. Regarding deaths due to COVID-19, there are 7 thousand 860, of which 3 thousand 518 have occurred in Tijuana.
