Marina del Pilar launches universal vaccination campaign for Baja Californian children

The “De Corazón Recuperamos la Vacunación” program’s goal is to reach 100,000 children in its first stage

Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, alongside the Secretary of Health of Baja California, José Adrián Medina Amarillas, led the launch of the “De Corazón Recuperamos la Vacunación” (With Heart We Recover Vaccinations) campaign whose goal is to protect the region’s children, from newborns to 9 year olds.

The vaccination schedule includes several different diseases such as meningitis, pneumonia, whooping cough, diphtheria, measles, rubella, mumps, influenza, and tuberculosis.

The goal, the governor explained, is to reach around 100,000 Baja Californian children which is why she instructed the Secretariat of Health to make vaccines available in the seven of the state’s municipalities so that parents can take their newborn children as well as children up to 9 years old.

Meanwhile, Medina Amarillas reiterated that there are enough doses to increase coverage of polio vaccines in children 1 year old or younger, applied by injection (as the inactivated poliovirus vaccine), through a hexavalent vaccine, six individual vaccines conjugated into one.

“This formula protects children from diseases such as meningitis, pneumonia, whooping cough, and diphtheria. There is also a vaccine against rotavirus, a triple viral vaccine against measles, rubella, and mumps, a vaccine against pneumococcus, and a dose for influenza type B. Meanwhile, the BCG vaccine against tuberculosis will be available for newborns and children younger than 5 years of age that never got it,” the state official explained.

Marina del Pilar considered that it was lucky that the Baja Californian government campaign was able to recover vaccination coverage for Baja Californian children, which is why this massive vaccination campaign will continue for the rest of 2022. It should be noted that all health centers of the state are joining this campaign as well as medical units from IMSS, ISSTE, ISSSTECALI, so as to later extend to brigades in schools.

Vaccination in Mexicali launched in several different malls such as Cachanilla, Nuevo Mexicali, Sendero, and Galerías del Valle, since the goal was to make it accessible for people in central and air-conditioned spaces to protect children from high temperatures.

Governor Marina del Pilar encouraged parents to complete the vaccination schedule of their children by approaching these medical units and health centers, as well as to keep themselves informed about vaccination sites that will be revealed regularly on the Secretariat of Health’s social media pages.

The head of SEPESCA, Alma Rosa García Juárez was present as well as CONAPESCA representative, Sergio Escutia, who will be the link between the state and the federation regarding this matter.

“I want to reiterate the certainty of the commitment we have between the state government and Baja California’s fishing industry,” she highlighted, pointing out that the necessary work will be carried to resolve the needs of Baja Californian fishermen and work in collaboration with them.
