The governor of Baja California prioritizes this issue due to the international potential that it has when coordinated with the European country

Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, governor of Baja California, met with the heads of important biotechnology companies in the city of Leipzig, Germany, in order to attract knowledge, investments, and technical training to strengthen and promote the industry in the state.

The governor went to BioCity Leipzig facilities, a space dedicated to the research and development of projects that gathers hundreds of companies and academics to look for solutions in current biotechnology challenges.

Here, Marina del Pilar was able to discover the work that the main German biotechnology experts do, as well as analyze mechanisms to transfer this knowledge to strengthen these innovative actions in Baja California. This is because it is an important tool to build a modern health system that specialists in Baja California can be a part of with help from the authorities.

As such, Ávila Olmeda highlighted the importance of promoting the creation of a bilateral cooperation system when it comes to innovation processes on the biotechnology sector of Baja California. This will bring great opportunities to make this industry move forward, especially when it comes to its applications in medicine.

The Secretary of Economy and Innovation of Baja California, Kurt Ignacio Honold Morales, and Subsecretary Roberto Andrade, accompanied Governor Marina del Pilar, and they also spoke with entrepreneurs to learn all about the keys of their labor and how to transfer this knowledge to Baja California, specially in order to strengthen entrepreneurs here.

It should be noted that, when it comes to biotechnology, Germany is registering important progress such as enzyme development for human consumption, cartilage prosthesis for joints, and stem cell applications, which will have important implications to improve patients’ health.
