UABC stands out by participating in World Design Capital Tijuana-San Diego 2024

UABC participates in World Design Capital Tijuana-San Diego 2024

In 2021, it was announced that the binational Tijuana-San Diego area could become the World Design Capital. It should be noted that the zone was competing against Moscow for this title. In the end, the organization’s judges went for our border region.

As such, cimarrones (UABC students) have stood out once more with their participation at World Design Capital Tijuana-San Diego 2024. Representatives of the Faculty of Arts Tijuana Campus met at UCSD Design Lab in La Jolla, California, last December 9, 2022 and at Casa de la Cultura, IMAC Tijuana, on January 20, 2023.

These two important meetings were held to have a commission in order to settle on ideas and projects in education focused on design. In fact, UABC teacher María del Carmen Alcántara Ibarra presented a Graphic Design and Video Postproduction Course.

“The program began in 2018, as a need was detected in the Tijuana population of them acquiring knowledge in relation with the technological tools of design and video, so as to allow them to develop their own multimedia projects,” Alcántara said at the meeting.

In addition, the teacher also took the opportunity to talk about the importance of understanding visual messages and being able to use them for any field in design.

This event took place after months of work, in which the Faculty of Arts participated by exchanging ideas about art, culture, and social and urban initiatives, as well as design in education.

It should be noted that the World Design Capital is announced every two years and recognizes the cities for its effective use of design to boost the economic, social, cultural, and environmental development of the city.
