U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that a vessel carrying 240 Haitian migrants was intercepted this week before it could reach U.S. territory.

The operation, carried out by Air and Marine Operations, the U.S. Coast Guard, and international partners, successfully stopped the boat in time.

According to officials, the vessel was severely overloaded and taking on water, putting the lives of those on board at risk and raising the possibility of a sinking or capsizing.

The interception, officials say, averted what could have easily become a maritime tragedy.

Authorities warn that such irregular maritime migration attempts are extremely dangerous and often life-threatening. They also emphasized that these perilous journeys do not guarantee entry into the United States.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with illegal sea crossings and the importance of timely intervention to prevent loss of life.
