Governor Marina del Pilar announces arrival of Qualcomm corporation in Baja California

The Marina del Pilar administration emphasized the projects with advanced technology that will benefit Baja Californians

The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar, recently met with the CEO of Qualcomm, Cristiano Amón, where it was announced that the city of Tijuana will be one of the headquarters of this semiconductor and software company.

We are very happy of expanding the footprint of the operations and engineering of Qualcomm Technologies into Tijuana, Baja California, so as to strengthen our presence and commitment in Mexico. The access to talent regarding engineering in the Baja California region was key in our decision”, said Dr. Rowen Chen, Senior Vice President, Chief Supply Chain & Operations Officer of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

The governor of Baja California highlighted projects that are currently ongoing such as new road infrastructure in the state, the Colonet seaport, and the new and revolutionary commercial port of entry Otay II, which will have the most advanced technology to speed up border crossings between the US and Mexico.

These actions will streamline the movement of merchandise and people, which will make operations by Qualcomm and other companies that establish themselves in Baja California easier,” explained Marina del Pilar, who emphasized that Qualcomm Technologies will begin operations in Tijuana in the fall with growth expectations in the next few years.

Regarding Qualcomm, the Secretary of Economy and Innovation, Kurt Ignacio Honold Morales, explained that the company has been fundamental in the design and development of semiconductors with the goal of revolutionizing mobile communication, including advanced connectivity and high-performance intelligent device; this, under an innovative industrial production framework.

Lastly, he gave as an example the development of platforms of the integrated circuit Snapdragon, which is estimated will participate in the transformation of the industry, the acceleration of the digital economy, and a new way of perceiving the world from devices, updated to the needs of contemporary society.
