The most expensive supermarket in Baja California is in Tijuana

In addition, a supermarket in this city is also considered the cheapest one in the state

Supermarkets are some of the most visited places by people because they need to buy their groceries periodically, specifically food. However, people’s income is what determines how much one can buy without affecting other expenses.

This is why, Ricardo Sheffield Padilla, head of the Federal Consumer Agency (PROFECO) shares a graphic every week where all Mexican supermarkets are rated according to whether they have low or high prices, dividing the country into several different zones.

Among the Northern Zone of Mexico, there is Baja California where two of their supermarkets were rated in both categories. In the list of the most expensive supermarkets there was the Walmart supermarket located at Plaza Galerías Hipódromo in Tijuana, as it offers its basic basket at a price of $983.80 pesos.

On the other hand, the Calimax market located in Boulevard Cuauhtémoc, Col. Zona Río in Tijuana had the opposite result, as it was rated as one of the supermarkets with the lowest prices. This supermarket offers the basic basket at a price of $885.80 pesos.

According to PROFECO, the basic basket must provide a family of four people for a period of one week. The basic basket consists of the following products:

1. Edible vegetable oil 1 piece of 946 ml
2. Grains of rice 1 kg
3. Tuna flakes in oil (maximum 5% of soy) 2 cans of 140 g
4. Standard sugar 1 kg
5. Beef 1 kg
6. White onion 1 kg
7. Jalapeño pepper 1 kg
8. Pork 1 kg
