Baja California’s Secretariat of Tourism has officially unveiled the Wellness Route: Among the Vineyards (Ruta Wellness entre Viñedos), a collection of four curated itineraries that weave together spa retreats, regional gastronomy, outdoor adventure, and deep connections with local Indigenous communities.

The initiative welcomes both international and domestic travelers whether they are visiting Baja California for world-class medical care or simply seeking a restorative getaway, according to Jorge Alberto III Arteaga Alemán, Baja California’s Coordinator of Health and Wellness Tourism.

These experiences are designed so anyone can enjoy the spas, regional cuisine, and scenic excursions with no medical treatments or health conditions required.

Redefining the Wellness Route & Tourism

The coordinator explained that wellness tourism brings together a range of options for visitors, including lodging, recreation, gastronomy, sightseeing, spa treatments, relaxation, and meditation.

While wellness tourism is not a new concept in the region, local officials have spent the past decade organizing it into a cohesive experience, he added.

Establishments featured in the Wellness Route: Among the Vineyards program are vetted to ensure top-tier facility standards for visitors interested in gastronomy, wine, and relaxation.

The result is a catalog that allows travelers to tailor their journey around specific interests and experiences.

Miguel Ángel Badiola Montaño, Baja California’ Secretary of Tourism, explained that the goal of this route is to unite Baja California’s cultural, gastronomic, and natural treasures into authentic experiences while introducing seasonal activities throughout the year.

Supporting Patients and Travel Companions

A core pillar of the initiative is catering to medical tourists and the family members who accompany them.

“Accompanying family members can explore the region’s food scene, unwind at a spa, or take part in local outdoor excursions”, Arteaga Alemán stated.

Baja California offers specialized recovery homes alongside comprehensive itinerary options, ensuring every stage of the visit is comfortable and enriching.

Year-Round Tours at the Wellness Route

The Wellness Route: Among the Vineyards is structured to operate year-round, though specific activities may shift with the seasons and availability, he explained.

“An initiative has been established in which vineyards can offer this level of quality and service all year long, rather than just during specific seasons,” Arteaga Alemán stated.

To select participants, organizers evaluate each venue on-site to ensure top-tier facility standards, guest safety, and exceptional service quality.

The state is actively promoting the initiative across multiple channels, including the official Baja Health Tourism platform, athletic events, and industry forums in key hubs like Ensenada and Mexicali.
