Rosarito's Underwater Park Postponed for April 2015

November's weather weren't ideal for its opening

ROSARITO.- The news of "Rosarito's Submarine Park" is still going strong among Baja California´s touristic promoters, almost a year after the project´s presentation, the artificial reef finally has a possible inauguration date.

Previously, the company sponsoring the project, Rosarito Ocean Sports, had placed November as the potential date for opening the artificial reef (also called an underwater park) but ended up moving it until April 2015, hoping that weather conditions improve in order to sink the "Uribe 121", the old battleship which will be the future home for Rosarito's aquatic flora and fauna, as well an exploration center for divers.

Towards the end April, we will finally be able to see the reef's inauguration in Puerto Nuevo, which will be 2.5 kilometers (1.55 miles) from the coast and 94 ft. deep.

According to the State of Baja California, the "Uribe 121", destined to protect sea life and also stimulate the region's economic growth, is currently in the neighboring city of Ensenada for cleaning and maintenance in order to guarantee that it will not have a negative impact on the coastal ecosystem.
