Romance tourism in Baja California is setting its sights well beyond weddings. Under a new strategy led by the state’s Secretariat of Tourism, the goal is to connect travelers with Baja California’s cultural, culinary, and wellness offerings to strengthen the tourism industry and launch the Wellness Route.

“In Baja California, we understand romance tourism as a strategic opportunity to showcase everything that makes our state special,” said Miguel Ángel Badiola Montaño, head of the Secretariat of Tourism. “It is not only about hosting a wedding or a couple’s trip, but about connecting visitors with the cultural, culinary, and well-being wealth that distinguishes us.”

Showcasing the Destination to Industry Experts

To showcase Valle de Guadalupe’s key attractions to professional romance event planners, the Secretariat of Tourism partnered with service providers specializing in this segment. The initiative was designed to bring the destination’s strengths to the forefront of wedding planners’ agendas across Mexico.

Coordinated by event designer Roberto Gastélum, the tour gave participating experts a firsthand look at six vineyards, four social event venues combining gastronomy, natural scenery, and high-end service, two hotel developments, and the main tourist routes of Ensenada.

During the visit, Badiola Montaño met with participants to acknowledge the private sector’s initiative, noting that Baja California stands out for the quality of its event production backed by strategic advantages such as connectivity, mobility, culinary diversity, and an attractive tourism calendar year-round.

Guests enjoyed traditional local cuisine at a breakfast in La Cocina de Doña Esthela, while the state-of-the-art side of Baja California cooking took center stage at a welcome dinner at Hábimo Hotel, prepared by chef David Salgado.

Industry-Wide Training and Certification

Alongside its promotional push, the Secretariat of Tourism has moved to professionalize the local industry through the International Romance Tourism Certification, delivered under the training program of the Association of Bridal Consultants (ABC). The course was aimed at raising the skills of the entire local value chain including experience designers, hoteliers, restaurateurs, event coordinators, and travel agents.

According to Badiola Montaño, the main goal is to sharpen the state’s workforce so it can meet the demands of the market. Participants received advanced instruction in organization, operational management, and the technical evaluation of venues, along with training in comprehensive event analysis and the design of personalized agendas rooted in the territorial wealth of each municipality. This allows for itineraries with more appeal and greater added value for visitors.

With these efforts, Baja California is steadily building a specialized sector equipped to deliver tailor-made experiences and to reinforce the state’s standing as a reference point for romance tourism, both nationally and internationally.

New Experiences Beyond the Event

As a distinguishing feature of its offering, the Secretariat of Tourism is preparing the formal launch of the Wellness Route, a new tourism product built around well-being, relaxation, health, and reconnection with nature.

The route is designed to complement romance celebrations and to extend visitors’ stays before or after their events. It will bring together spa treatments and mind-body reconnection experiences in the region’s most representative natural settings, enriched by local oenology, boutique accommodations immersed in the landscape, and the state’s celebrated culinary scene endorsed by the Michelin Guide.

This diversification strengthens the participation of service providers across the entire value chain while answering the demands of a new kind of traveler in search of comprehensive, personalized experiences.

Through professionalization, collaboration with specialists, and the creation of high-value products, the state government is consolidating a tourism policy aimed at boosting economic revenue and spreading its benefits in favor of Shared Well-Being.
