U.S. Coast Guard personnel intercepted eight individuals attempting to enter the United States illegally on Tuesday, September 22, approximately 6 miles off the coast of Point Loma.
The operation began at 8:02 p.m. when operators at the Joint Port Operations Center detected a suspicious vessel in the area and dispatched a unit from the Maritime Safety and Security Team Los Angeles/Long Beach (MSST LA/LB) to investigate.
Upon arriving at the scene, the boarding team located a 21-foot vessel and safely brought it to a stop.
Officers boarded the boat without incident and detained the 8 individuals on suspicion of illegal entry.
The individuals were subsequently transported to Ballast Point and transferred to the custody of U.S. Border Patrol agents for further investigation.
