Ismael Burgueño Ruiz is emerging as the strongest potential Morena candidate for governor of Baja California, according to a new poll by Question Mark for El Heraldo de México.
Burgueño, who is currently on leave as mayor of Tijuana, received 22% support among Morena-PT-PVEM contenders surveyed ahead of the 2027 election.
His position becomes stronger when respondents are asked about a potential general election. In that scenario, Burgueño receives 41% of the vote, putting him ahead of the other candidates included in the poll.
Morena holds a strong lead statewide
The survey also points to a significant advantage for Morena across Baja California.
Asked which party they would vote for if the election were held today, 51.3% of respondents selected Morena. The party’s support was substantially higher than that of the other political groups included in the survey.
The numbers give the ruling party a strong position heading into the 2027 gubernatorial race, while Burgueño’s results place him among the leading potential candidates within Morena.
For Burgueño, the poll provides three favorable indicators: he leads the party’s internal preferences, reaches 41% in the hypothetical election matchup and is running under a party backed by more than half of surveyed voters in Baja California.
Morena has yet to formally select its candidate for governor, leaving the internal race open as the party prepares for the 2027 election.
