Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana and the Director General of the Mexican Postal Service, Violeta Abreu González, toured the historic mail building, located on Calle 11 in the Downtown area, to oversee the facilities and outline coordinated actions for their rehabilitation, maintenance, and improvement.
The mayor and the federal official were received by postal service staff, who guided the authorities through the building, which was designed to provide parcel and mail services to Tijuana natives. During the tour, they visited an area of Banco del Bienestar, a postal exhibition, and mailboxes, among other spaces.

On this occasion, they discussed the importance of restoring the building and adapting it with spaces to promote culture, as it is a property that should be preserved for its historical significance.
“I acknowledge the work carried out by the head of the Mexican Postal Service, Violeta Abreu González, her sensitivity, and her vision for transformation, as well as her efforts to ensure we have a dignified and well-maintained building,” Mayor Ismael Burgueño of Tijuana highlighted.

He also announced that, as part of the immediate actions under City Hall’s responsibility, maintenance of street lighting in the area, pruning work, and enhanced security measures will be carried out.
Meanwhile, Mexican Postal Service Director General Violeta Abreu González thanked the mayor for the coordinated efforts and his interest in joining this project, aimed at improving public service and the facilities.

During the tour of the postal building, officials from the State Secretariat of Culture shared part of the building’s history. Inaugurated in November 1957, it is considered the oldest postal building in Baja California and has evolved over the years.
It should be noted that in 2023, the last improvements were made to the building, including the installation of a ramp for people with disabilities and a fresh coat of paint on the facade.

Also present during the tour were Councilor Magaly Ronquillo Palacios; the Secretary of Territorial, Urban, and Environmental Development, Virginia Vargas González; Tijuana’s Secretary of Economic Development, Pedro Montejo Peterson; as well as Federal Deputy Gilberto Herrera Solórzano; the State Government’s Secretary of Culture, Alma Delia Abrego Ceballos; and other officials.
