The Mexicali City Hall returned the photos and the mailbox that had been part of the “Tree of Hope,” reaffirming its commitment to supporting groups of searching mothers in their struggle. Present at the handover were Imelda López and María Meza, members of the Unidos Por Nuestros Desaparecidos (United for Our Missing) group.

Additionally, on behalf of Mayor Norma Bustamante of Mexicali, a commitment was made to reinstall banners with photos and information about people who remain missing in the coming days. Another pledge was to either restore another tree or create an artificial one that serves the same purpose of raising awareness of missing people.

The “Tree of Hope” had been damaged a few days earlier due to strong winds in the capital of Baja California, compounded by the tree’s weakened condition, which had been holding photographs of missing people. This ultimately led to its complete collapse.

After the tree fell, the photographs, ribbons, and search records were safeguarded by the Mexicali City Hall, leading to their official return this day.

On the other hand, the so-called “Mailbox of Forgiveness” was also handed back. This mailbox allowed anyone with information about the whereabouts of a missing person to share it anonymously.
