Mayor Norma Bustamante of Mexicali visited the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) in Mexico City to begin the registration process for 16 trademarks under the local government’s name.

“A city’s entire cultural heritage should belong to its people. That’s why we’ve started the process to register 16 trademarks that reflect the history, traditions, and essence of the Mexicali community,” the mayor said.

Some of the brands being registered are Barrio Mágico La Chinesca, Mexicali Rose, Fiestas del Sol, Visit Mexicali, the Mexicali Official Seal, Museo Wok, Yo por mi Centro Histórico, La uno para cinco mil, Uniendo Esfuerzos, Mexicali, la ciudad que capturó el sol (Mexicali, the City That Captured the Sun), Ruta Centro Histórico de Mexicali (Mexicali Historic Downtown Route), Plaza Calafia, and Palenque del FEX.

The last two are undergoing dual registration—one as a leasing space and another as an entertainment venue.

The mayor also noted that the IMPI is expected to complete the registration process in approximately two months.
