After more than three decades of legal limbo, over 40 families in Colonia Progreso, Baja California, have finally received the deeds to their homes granting them long-awaited legal certainty over their properties.
The deed delivery ceremony was led by Congressman Juan Manuel Molina García, representative of District 5, who credited the achievement to persistent coordination among local authorities, legal officials, and his own management team.
“We found the legal pathway, we knocked on every door, and we worked hand-in-hand with the notary’s office, the public registry, and City Hall,” Molina García said. “Today, we see the result of an effort that for years seemed impossible.”
Molina García underscored the social importance of the event, noting that over 40 families have now gained legal certainty over their homes, which has granted them peace of mind that had been denied to them for decades.
He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of all those who supported the process, emphasizing that the achievement was not his alone, but the result of a committed team that worked tirelessly until the deeds were finally placed in the hands of the community.
The ceremony was attended by María Caridad González, a program beneficiary; Paula Aguilar, community liaison; Notary Public Gabriel Tobías Duarte Corral; Isis Mariel Romero Pelayo, Public Property Registry Delegate; and Municipal Delegate Juanita Tula Ruiz, who accompanied the delivery proceedings.
María González said during the event:
“For more than three decades, we lived in uncertainty, paying for services, and waiting for answers that never came. Today, after so much effort, we can finally rest knowing that we have our deeds in hand.”
Notary Public Gabriel Duarte highlighted that holding a property title provides families with security and tranquility, as it allows them to freely manage their properties, including bequeathing them through a will. In this regard, he encouraged attendees to take advantage of the national campaign taking place in September, known as the Month of the Will, during which procedures are both accessible and expedited, with the goal of helping families ensure an orderly procedure of their assets.
This event was held at Casa de la Cultura of Progreso District, a venue that bore witness to an act of social justice and the fulfillment of a long-held dream for the community.
